UNICEF, Papua New Guinea has engaged Feedback Foundation (FF) for Strengthening the CLTS Capacity of four District Teams of Papua New Guinea viz. Central Bougainville, Nawaeb, Goroka and Mt Hagen. The objective of this project is to improve access to safe sanitation and hygiene behavior in 200 schools, 36 health centres and 800 neighbouring communities in the 4 pilot districts, by helping them achieve Open Defecation Free (ODF) status and improving their hygiene practices. The project started in August, 2019 and District Level Visioning and Action Planning workshops have been conducted in all the 4 districts. 5-day Training of Mobilizers have also been conducted in all the 4 districts, to enhance the capacity of Community Mobilizers on CLTS approach and create a dedicated district resource pool to augment the implementation of safe sanitation and hygiene related activities in order to make the districts ODF.

A contextualised CLTS Module has also been developed to be used by local teams for further capacity building. 2-day ‘WaSH in School’ Training Programme has also been conducted at Nawaeb and Bougainville Districts. Strategic Supervision Support is being provided to all the 4 districts for facilitating villages to attain ODF status and results are visible in the intervention districts. This is a 2-year project and Refresher Workshops and Joint Review Missions (JRMs) will also be conducted. JRMs are expected to contribute towards institutionalizing the practice of documenting, learning and sharing of what has worked and also to recognize a need to understand what has not worked. This intervention is part of ’Klinpela Komuniti Projek’ supported by European Union UNICEF WaSH Project.
