    As a first step, a one day state level demand creation workshop was held in Jaipur on 21 September 2010 , where representatives from WSSO and DWSC had participated. The main purpose of this workshop was to orient and create buy - in of the state and district level stakeholders on the concept of the CLTS approach and thereby create demand amongst the DWSSC to accelerate TSC in the districts through the CLTS approach.

    The months of November, December and January were very eventful both at the community front and at the UNICEF and government front. One five - day ToT workshop was held at Dungarpur, from 9 to 13 November. Handholding support continued in the districts of Udaipur, Tonk and Dungarpur. Representative from UNICEF had visited the ODF villages of Dungarpur and Udaipur in the month of December . A one - day state level workshop involving government officials from 11 pilot districts, UNICEF, natural leaders from the ODF villages of Dungarpur and Tonk, FVL representatives and state level government officials from CCDU was held in Jaipur on 17th January 2011 . This workshop was chaired by the Secretary, PR&RD. This issue of the newsletter comprises of brief descriptions of all the events of the quarter, the success stories, few case studies from the fields and an assortment of other information.

    Five districts of Rajasthan: Udaipur, Tonk, Dungarpur, Sirohi and Sawai Madhopur , have now adopted the CLTS approach for total sanitation. The villages of these districts which have been triggered have started showing significant results, with most of them ODF by the 'cat method' , few have constructed 'zero-low cost toilets ' and in a few , permanent toilet structures are being constructed. Dungarpur has moved a step forward. Following the success of creating 4 ODF GPs in a short span of time, the district has raised the demand of creating the entire block of Bicchiwada ODF, by September 2011. For this purpose , a 1 day orientation workshop was held on 7 th April which was attended by the local MLA, Zila Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti Pradhan, Sarpanch and Ward members from 24 GPs, CEO, ACEO, District Co - coordinator (TSC), Block Co - coordinators, all DWSC members, BDO, UNICEF representative, and representatives of the FVL team. A detailed discussion on various activities of handholding at all levels was held. Monitoring and resource structures were discussed along with the proposed community monitoring activities. The issue of subsidy/ incentive was discussed in details and it was mentioned that the district has to take a policy decision to utilize the incentive under TSC to make it more inclusive as per the demands of the GPs / communities.

    Along with Dungarpur, Sirohi, Udaipur, Sawai Madhopur, and Tonk which have already adopted the CLTS approach, the district of Karauli too has opened up with a 5 - day ToT workshop . This newsletter gives an update about the progress of the 6 districts alongwith some interesting stories from the field. A five day training of trainers’ workshop on CLTS approach to total sanitation was held at Karauli District in Rajasthan, from 28th June to 2nd July, 2011. This was the sixth CLTS ToT workshop in Rajasthan and 64 participants had participated in it.
