Feedback Foundation is providing technical support for developing an Integrated Decentralized Solid Waste Management [IDSWM] Model in 7 wards [26,38,52,61,71,73,96] of Hariparvat Zone, Uttar Pradesh. The project is supported by the CSR wing of Godrej Properties Limited. The key objective is to develop a self-sustaining IDSWM model and facilitate scaling up of the project in other wards of Agra Municipal Corporation. Towards this objective, a Sanitation Park consisting of Material Recovery Facility [MRF] and Micro-composting Center [MCC], has been developed to meet the SWM requirement of the wards. Citizen awareness drives and capacity building workshops are being conducted for segregation of waste at source and waste reduction initiatives. Door-to-door collection of segregated waste is done by collection boys which is then brought to the sanitation park. The segregated waste is categorized as wet waste or biodegradable, dry waste or recyclables (i.e., plastics, wood, metals, paper, paper board, glass, textiles, etc.), domestic bio-medical, and domestic hazardous waste. Secondary and tertiary segregation is done at the sanitation park.
The wet/biodegradable waste is converted into compost through the composting pits built at the MCC in the Sanitation park.
Dry waste/recyclables are sorted based on their economic value, washed and stored in classified wired mesh compartments in the MRF, and sold to authorized vendors.
An incinerator is being procured for the safe disposal of domestic biomedical waste, and domestic hazardous waste is being sold to authorized vendors.
