Feedback Foundation [FF] is providing technical support to develop a pilot Integrated Decentralized Solid Waste Management Model in 10 wards of Palashbari Municipal Board. As part of this initiative, a mini–Sanitation Park has been established that includes a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) and a Micro Composting Centre (MCC) to address the town’s waste management needs. FF team is also conducting citizen awareness drives and capacity-building workshops to promote waste segregation at source and to encourage waste reduction practices. To facilitate this, Swachhta Sathis have been employed for door-to-door collection and processing of segregated waste.
The collected waste is categorized into different types, including wet waste or biodegradable waste, dry waste or recyclables (such as plastics, wood, metals, paper, paperboard, glass, textiles, etc.), domestic biomedical waste, and domestic hazardous waste. Secondary and tertiary segregation of the waste is carried out in the Sanitation Park. Till May 2023, our team has successfully diverted 195 tons of waste from the landfill site.
- Wet/Biodegradable waste is being processed into high-quality compost, through the composting units built at the sanitation park.
- Dry Waste and Domestic Hazardous Waste are sorted and sold exclusively to authorized recyclers, contributing to the promotion of a circular economy.
- Domestic Biomedical Waste is safely incinerated following strict protocols and regulatory guidelines, ensuring proper disposal and risk elimination.
By adopting these measures, we strive to effectively manage solid waste while promoting sustainability and responsible waste disposal practices. This project is being supported by Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL).
