Varanasi, March 13, 2026: A major step toward sustainable urban sanitation was marked with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art Sanitation Park at the Varanasi Cantonment Board on March 13, 2026. The facility was inaugurated in the presence of Amit Singh Sohal, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Purva Uttar Pradesh & Madhya Pradesh Sub Area, along with Swapan Dhar, Managing Director of SBI Foundation; Sujay Kumar Yadav, Managing Director of SBI Payments; Jaydeep Chanda; and Satyam Mohan.
The Sanitation Park is part of the flagship initiative ‘SBIF CONSERW: Waste No More in Varanasi’, powered by the SBI Foundation, co-funded by SBI Payments, and implemented by Feedback Foundation Charitable Trust.
Designed on an integrated and decentralized solid waste management model, the facility has the capacity to process up to 5 tonnes per day (TPD) of waste. The project aims to significantly improve waste handling and disposal practices within the cantonment area, addressing long-standing sanitation challenges.
Officials highlighted that the Sanitation Park will not only streamline waste processing but also serve as a demonstration site for sustainable and community-driven waste management practices. The initiative is expected to deliver long-term environmental benefits and set a benchmark for similar urban sanitation projects across the region.
