Land is a critical input for infrastructure and industrial development. In India, land acquisition has always been a challenge for projects, given the density of land-use. While compensation for land acquisition has increased, successful land acquisition requires thorough and pro-active rehabilitation of project affected people. Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, regulates land acquisition and lays down guidelines for granting compensation, rehabilitation to the host communities.
