Feedback Foundation is providing technical support to the Chakrata Cantonment Board for two essential waste management initiatives: biomining and bioremediation of legacy waste and the development of Integrated Decentralized Solid Waste Management system in all wards of Chakrata Cantonment Board. The project started in November 2022 and aims to divert 5768 tons of waste from the landfill site during the project period in 36 months.

Out of which, 3580 tons of legacy waste has been remediated and the landfill site has been completely cleared. Remaining 2188 tons of waste will be diverted through integrated decentralized solid waste management. A Sanitation Park consisting of Material Recovery Facility [MRF] and Micro-Composting Center [MCC] has been established at the cleared landfill site to effectively address the city’s solid waste management (SWM) requirements. Integrated decentralized SWM involves waste collection, segregation, processing, and treatment.

Citizen awareness drives and capacity-building workshops are being done to encourage waste segregation at the source, to promote waste reduction practices among residents and to apprise citizens of the importance of solid waste management. The ultimate goal of the project is to foster a cleaner and more sustainable environment in Chakrata Cantonment by leveraging innovative waste management techniques and fostering a culture of responsible waste disposal. The project is supported by the CSR wing of Godrej Properties Limited.
